The ten best things I've seen in the world - in no particular order.

Forget trying to see 1,000 things to see before you die - I'd stick to ten or so but stay longer, get to know them or visit several times. It's hard to choose of course and like all these lists it changes all the time, the next great sight is often my favourite.!

Iguacu Falls, Argentina and Brazil. Very impressive. Iguacu Falls, Argentina and Brazil. Very impressive.

Pedra do Bau, Brazil. Though only about 2000m high this has to be one of the world's most spectacular mountains The Pedra do Bau, Brazil. Though only about 2000m high this has to be one of the world's most whacky mountains. It's a wedge of granite 2km long, 300-500m high and only about 10m wide along the top!
Brontosaurus thigh bone, Dinosaur National Monument, Wyoming, June 2000 Brontosaurus thigh bone, Dinosaur National Monument, Wyoming, June 2000. There are impressive fossils like this lying everywhere in the monument... and no-one says "don't touch".
Diving and snorkelling on the Perhentian Islands, Malaysia, July 2004. Diving and snorkelling on the Perhentian Islands, Malaysia, July 2004. This was my first time snorkelling and I was just staggered at how many fish you saw.
Inca stonework, Cuzco, Peru. Incredible skill to sandwich such big granite blocks together so perfectly ...and these folk couldnae even write! Inca stonework, Cuzco, Peru. Incredible skill to sandwich such big granite blocks together so perfectly ...and these folk couldnae even write!
Villarrica Volcano. Lava erupting in the crater, October 2003. I've climbed Villarrica eight times and it never disappoints, though this was the most spectacular eruption. To be so close to live lava is incredible - you don't just see it, you smell it, hear it and feel it
Rio de Janeiro - the worlds most spectacular city. Rio de Janeiro - the worlds most spectacular city.
Self-portrait rock face at Joshua Tree, California, April 1993. Self-portrait rock face at Joshua Tree, California, April 1993. This had us in stitches for hours.
Sunset over the south Patagonian ice-cap, January 2000. I'll always remember my first trip onto the Patagonian ice-cap, an amazing experience - awesome scenery, serious weather, sunsets like this one, giant crevasses and good company.
Total Eclipse of the Sun, Peru 1994. Total Eclipse of the Sun, Peru 1994. An amazing thing to see and well worth the effort to see one before you die!

OK, so that was eleven!
