My ten favourite mountains from around the world.

This page features photos of some of my favourite mountains, both ones I have climbed and ones that are just great to look at. As a list it changes all the time, the next mountain is often my favourite.!

On another page I have photos of some of my Favourite climbing areas around the world.

Some of my favourite mountains

Some of my favourite peaks, for one reason or another, usually either nice to look at or great memories of climbing there

Aresonraju, 5999m, Cordillera Blanca , Peru Artesonraju 5999m, Cordillera Blanca, Peru. It's stunningly beautiful and it's 5999m high, so it had to be in the list.
Barre des Ecrins, Dauphine, France.

Barre des Ecrins, Dauphine, France at sunrise. One of the best birthdays I ever had was traversing this alpine peak on a beautiful day in 1999.

Naranjo de Bulnes, Picos de Europa, northern Spain. A brilliant lump of limestone, with many excellent rock routes on it. Naranjo de Bulnes, Picos de Europa, northern Spain. A brilliant lump of limestone, with many excellent rock routes on it.
Matterhorn/Cervino, European Alps, Switzerland-Italy. Over-rated, over subscribed and photographed far too often, but its still an awesome mountain. This picture was taken from the Monte Rosa hut at dawn, April 2004.
Muztag Ata, 7546m, Xinjiang, China. Muztag Ata, 7546m,  Xinjiang, China. The biggest thing I have ever skiied, although not quite the steepest. Also to date the highest peak I have climbed, and altogether a great holiday with some great memories.
The Old Man of Hoy, Orkney islands Does it count as a mountain? It's certainly one of the most impressive summits I have ever stood on! The Old Man of Hoy in Orkney, a 135m high pile of chossy and greasy sandstone. A thoroughly unpleasant climb leading to an absolutely amazing summit.
Ben Nevis at sunset, 10pm, June 2006. Scotland's highest and mightiest peak. Ben Nevis at sunset, 10pm, June 2006. Scotland's highest and mightiest peak.
Skiing at 4600m on Volcan Domuyo in Argentina. High camp lies 1800m below but just one hour away...  In one way this trip was nothing spectacular, but in other ways it was one of the best ski-mountaineering trips I have done. An ordinary trip that became brilliant....
Dedo do Deus (right) and Escalavrado ( left) seen for the road in the Serra dos Orgaos near Rio de Janerio Two for the price of one - the spectacular peaks of Dedo do Deus (right) and Escalavrado ( left) seen for the road. These peaks in the Serra dos Orgaos near Rio de Janerio are really stunning - like Yosemite but with monkeys!
Volcan Llaima the first time I skied it ...and finally for now, the best ski descent ever was Volcan Llaima the first time I skied it - this picture from the second time (snowboarding). This active volcano erupted just three days after I last climbed it in December 2007.
